fall nails

If you know me, you know I'm obsessed with nail polish. I have over 50 bottles (40 are OPI). And I'm always looking for the newest cool colors. I just got these 4 for fall (and am getting 8 more colors from my aunt this weekend who gets them for me at a huge discount).

Top to Bottom (because for some reason this picture will not show up horizontally):
Suzi Skis in the Pyrenees
Royal Rajah Ruby
Manicurist of Seville
Ski Teal We Drop

Testing them out (one on each finger). Left to Right:

Justin likes to tease me and calls OPI, "Opie, Ron Howard's line of nail polish".

love & marriage

Bekah over at Life With the Edwards posted this long survey about her and her husband and I thought it looked fun, so here you go:

1. When is your "engagement" anniversary?
June something, 2008

2. When is your "marriage" anniversary?
9.19.09

3. How long have you known your spouse?
for 9 years

4. How long did you date before you were engaged?
6.5 years

5. Where did you meet your spouse for the first time?
We met at a local band show

6. What is your spouse's full name?
Justin Daniel Gomer

7. Do you have any children?
Only 1 so far

8. How many? Boys/Girls
1 girl. But I'd like 3 or 4. More girls than boys please :)

9. Do you have any house pets?
We can't have pets here, but when we buy a house we'll get a dog or two.

10. Do you own a house or rent?
We rent right now. Justin has 2 or 3 years left of school so we'll probably buy when he's done and gets a job, but he could get a job anywhere in the country so we're waiting to see where we'll settle first.

11. Do you live in the country/town/city?
In a city. Near Berkeley, CA.

12. What is one of your favorite activites to do together?
Playing with our daughter, watching movies and TV, going out to dinner and movies.

13. Do you have a favorite vacation spot?
We love weekend trips to Napa. We also both love New York.

14. When did you first kiss?
When we started dating in 2002. I don't remember the exact date.

15. What church do you attend?
N/A

16. Is this the church you were married in?
We got married at The Church of the Nativity. The most beautiful church I've ever been in.

17. What town is current address at?
We're near Berkeley.

18. Do you work or stay home?
I work at home. Being a wife, mom, housecleaner, babysitter, errand runner, etc. is like having 2 full time jobs.

19. Where did you go on your honeymoon?
We didn't take one because when we got married we had a 7 month old baby. We spent our wedding night at Corde Valle and took a weekend trip to Napa in July if that counts.

20. What was the funniest gift you gave while dating?
For his 21 birthday I got Justin a bottle of Boone's Farm.

21. How long have you been together?
It'll be 9 years in January.

22. How long did you know each other before you started dating?
I think we talked online and on the phone for a month or two before we started hanging out and actually dating.

23. Who asked who out?
He said "So do you consider me your boyfriend now?" which was his oh-so-romantic way of asking me to be his girlfriend I guess, haha.

24. How old are each of you?
Justin is 25 and I'm 27. And yes, he was 16 and I was 18 when we started dating, scandalous I know.

25. Where do each of you go to school?
Justin is working on his PhD at UC Berkeley and I went to San Francisco State but graduated almost 5 years ago (yikes).

26. Which situation is hardest on you as a couple?
Nothing is really hard for us, we are easy and get along perfectly. Other than our opposite tastes in movies, music and books, we are like the same person.

27. Did you go to the same school?
Nope.

28. Are you from the same town?
Nope. But the towns we grew up in were only 25 miles apart.

29. Who is smarter?
Well Justin's in grad school working on a PhD and most of my conversations are with a 19 month old, so I think we should grade on a curve here.

30. Who is more sensitive?
Justin, for sure. I'm pretty tough.

31. Where do you eat out most as a couple?
There are so many rediculously good placed to eat near us. Some favorites are: Picante, Jimmy Beans, Barney's, China Village, Zachary's Pizza, Cheeseboard, Tacubaya, Sunnyside Cafe, Bette's Oceanview Diner.

32. Where is the farthest you two have traveled as a couple?
Sydney Australia was pretty far.

33. Who has the craziest exes?
Justin for sure.

34. Who has the worse temper?
Depends. I don't think either one of us ever really has a bad temper.

35. Who does the cooking?
Justin does most nights, but once or twice a week, I'll do it. I'm famous for my tacos and calzones.

36. Who is more social?
Me, definitely, but we are both homebodies and have a small group of really close friends that we mainly socialize with.

37. Who is the neat-freak?
Definitely me, but we are both pretty clean. I'm the deep cleaner, Justin is the tidier one.

38. Who is more stubborn?
I asked Justin this and he pointed to me :(

39. Who hogs the bed?
Neither of us, we both sleep on our own sides. I'm not a big cuddler.

40. Who wakes up earlier?
Whoever is getting up with Belle which alternates. We both like to sleep in when we can.

41. Where was your first date?
I don't think we ever had one and if we did it was 9 years ago, so I don't remember. The first movie we saw together was I Am Sam.

42. Who had more boyfriends/girlfriends?
Justin's had girlfriends since he was in Kindergarten.

43. Do you get flowers often?
No! And it sucks because I love getting flowers.

44. How do you spend the holidays?
Split between families and I'm not a fan of it. I can't wait until we have our own house and everyone can come see us.

45. Who is more jealous?
Haha! Neither of us is at all jealous. I'm pretty sure after marriage and children, there's not a whole lot to be insecure about.

46. How long did it take to get serious?
I think I told Justin I loved him after about 2 weeks.

47. Who eats more?
We both eat about the same.

48. Who does the laundry?
Justin does the heavy lifting, I fold and put away.

49. Who is better with the computer?
Me, definitely. Although he's a Mac and I'm a PC so it's like 2 different worlds.

50. Leave a piece of advice for other couples.
Don't take anything too seriously. If you can laugh together, that's all you really need.

shoes I want

I'm not sure how I feel about these. I think they are awesome, but they're not exactly a gorgeous pair of heels. What can I say? I'm a sucker for a flat boot.

A good pair of sneakers is a must for a busy mom in cooler weather. I've always loved Puma's and I think these are pretty sleek.

Aaah! These are my favorite and unfortunately, by far the most expensive pair I want. I likely won't be seeing these in my closet anytime soon, but aren't they pretty?

These are fun and I like the idea of a brown pair. Most of my nicer shoes are black. And I love the bootie with the peeptoe.

1 year

I know I'm a couple days late, but on Sunday, it was mine and Justin's one year wedding anniversary. We don't really count our wedding date as our real anniversary though because we've only been married for one year, but we've been together for almost 9 years. So we'll continue celebrating our dating anniversary as our benchmark for our relationship. But we had to do something to celebrate our first year of marriage, so we decided to go on our favorite kind of date: dinner and a movie.

Here we are, one year ago!
And here we were on Sunday.
We ate dinner at Rivoli on Solano in Berkeley. The food was good, but not life changing. The atmosphere was really peaceful and perfect for an anniversary dinner.
After dinner we went and saw The Town. I was really looking forward to this movie, when I first saw the previews a few months ago, I thought it was going to be really good. The movie was kind of a letdown. It wasn't bad, but definitely not great. Although I will say, I really don't like Blake Lively at all, she did a great job in this movie. The plot was a little flimsy though, like why would a woman who was held hostage at gunpoint and let go, knowing the people who captured her know where she lives, randomly start dating a strange man and spilling secrets to him 4 days later? Really?

In other random news, Glee starts tonight and I am so excited! The entire first season came out on DVD last week and I've been spending every free moment this weekend re-watching it.

crazy week

Last week was very busy in the Gomer household. I decided to document my week by outfits. Please don't judge my fashion sense, nearly everything I own is from GAP.

A day at home with Belle.
Night 1 of sorority rush.
(I'm an advisor for the SFSU chapter of Alpha Gamma Delta)
The Gomers take the Dicksons out for Michelle's birthday.
Michelle's big birthday dinner.
Mine and Justin's 1 year wedding anniversary!

Michelle's birthday dinner tradition continues

Book: Freedom

Over the weekend I finally finished this epic novel. If you haven't heard of it, the book Freedom by Jonathan Franzen is a newly released modern tale of a modern suburban family. Barack Obama picked up an advanced copy the week before it came out and the author was on the cover of Time magazine in which they praised him as a great American novelist. The book itself was long and exhausting to read, but it was pretty good. I personally don't really get why Franzen is so amazing, but the story was compelling. It's a modern fiction story about a family and their lives (you seriously get each character's entire life story), and includes a lot of sex and a lot of politics. It starts in the 70's and continues through the end of the Bush administration. The thing I loved most about the book was the characters and their relationships to each other. Every single character reminded me of someone that I know which made the whole thing very believable and relatable. If you are in the mood for a long book about a modern suburban family and aren't necessarily looking for a thrill ride, I'd recommend checking it out.

it's that time of year...

Fall TV time! I'm not one of those cool, unaffected types who says "I never watch TV". I totally watch TV and I live for the new fall schedule. I normally don't watch anything during the day (except sometimes during Belle's naps), but as soon as she goes to bed (or more often when Justin goes to bed), me and Tivo become inseparable. This year's fall lineup is slightly disappointing. Nevertheless, here's what I'll be watching...

Monday
8:00 – 10:00 Dancing with the Stars (Sep 20)*
8:00 – 9:00 90210 (Sep 13)
9:00 – 10:00 Gossip Girl (Sep 13)
9:00 – 10:00 Real Housewives of Atlanta (Oct 4)

Sunday
8:00 – 9:00 Amazing Race (Sep 26)
10:00 – 11:00 Brothers and Sisters (Sep 26)

* I normally don't watch DWTS unless there's someone I'm interested in seeing and then when they get voted off or I get sick of watching 3 hours a week of people who can't dance, I usually stop watching.

Here's my favorite source for my fall TV schedule: The Futon Critic. I like them because they list every channel, not just the major networks.

nude shoe

I never ever wear heels. I'm pretty sure the last time I wore some was at my wedding almost a year ago. However, I do love a good pair of pretty heels. This year I'm loving nude and neutral shades. Here are some of my favorites...

I also (more realistically) really want these:

Book, Movie, Music: No Country For Old Men and other reviews

Book: No Country For Old Men
This might be my new favorite book of all time. Cormac McCarthy may not be for everyone, but he is definitely for me. This book was sad, funny, scary and profound all at the same time. If you liked the movie, you'll love this book. It was incredible and stunningly written.

Movie: An Education
Being nominated for Best Picture at the Oscars last year, I was expecting something pretty spectacular. What I got was a ho-hum life lesson story about a girl coming of age (a little too quickly) in England. It definitely didn't wow me, but it was cute.

Album: Arcade Fire - The Suburbs
I love the first three song so much that track number four just loses me. I try to listen, but by track six, I get fed up and just listen to the first three songs again. Not sure how the tail end of the album is, but the first three songs are brilliant!

30 day blog journal: Day 30 & 31

Sorry it has taken me so long to finish this, our weekend and start of the week have been both busy and relaxing and I've liked it that way. Anyway, here is the end of my 30 day blog journal, hope you've enjoyed it!

Hopes, Dreams and Plans for the next 365 Days
  • Well, #1 on my list is to just enjoy the rest of the year, because next year Justin and I are going to start thinking about baby #2 and I am beyond excited for that.
  • I am also super excited to see 6 amazing friends (3 different couples) get married. One in November and two next summer.
  • I'm hoping that Justin and I will be able to take a trip together (hopefully to Spain) but am nervous that it means leaving Belle for the first time.
  • I also am hoping and dreaming that Justin makes a very huge step in his career this fall and that even bigger things will be in store for him next year.
  • I'm looking forward to Belle using the potty. I know this may sound lame, but she peed in the potty yesterday so now I am just counting the days until I'm not changing diapers anymore. And also a little sad that she's growing up, although hopeful that I'll be able to enjoy these little milestones again at some point :)
A Dream for the Future

My only dream for the future is that my life is full. I'd like a big family and I'd like everyone in that family to be happy. I'd also like to have something (like a career) that can fulfill me outside of my family so that I'm not only identified by that. I'd also love to travel and buy and decorate (possibly remodel) a house.
